“by throwing yourself into these emotions, by allowing yourself to dive in, all the way, over your head even, you experience them fully and completely. You know what pain is. You know what love is. You know what grief is. And only then can you say, ‘All right. I have experienced that emotion. I recognize that emotion. Now i need to detach from that emotion…’ “

the first time i read this, i found it vague. but as i read it again, it’s now clearer than i imagined. surprisingly, i now fully understand morrie’s lesson about emotions; as if i’m reading and taking it directly from his mind. and as i come to understand, i believe it’s just best to act on it. how many times did i think that i have conquered it all..just as how many times i realized that i’m still caught in the middle. maybe what’s missing is the actual exam..pushing the plunge button and letting my body dive until i touch the ocean floor, allowing deep emotions penetrate my soul. after that, waves and tides would take me back on land as i say, ‘All right. I have experienced that emotion. I do recognize that emotion. Now i can and will detach from that emotion…’

“detachment doesn’t mean you don’t let the experience penetrate you. On the contrary, you let it penetrate you fully. That’s how you are able to leave it.”

Learn to detach, Morrie says.. yes coach, i think the detachment has finally started. hopefully..
